Pearl of the caribbean Cayo Largo - a rich island for tourists in poor Cuba

This is really the pearl of the Caribbean. Beautiful place with a handful of tourists. Or at least it seems, thanks to the location of buildings and large beaches. The first thing that caught my eye when I entered to the room was to notice how to behave in the event of a hurricane. Hurricanes?

On the first day the weather showed us what it can do here. But the locals were calm, so we stayed, too. We were there at a time when hurricanes began - late August. During our stay the storm with the wind caught us about three times. It has always been very fast and relatively short.

Very carefully selected Cubans get to work on the island.

What criteria did we not know? An interview with the locals revealed that they were very happy to work here. They have much higher earnings than people on the mainland, so they can support their families. But the services here were quite long for them. Several weeks.

The bungalows where we were staying were built by a Canadian company. The buildings were wooden but made of concrete.

We flew to the island by a local airline. The plane was at least 50 years old, but it safely transported us. Havana Airport for local connections was still without air conditioning, gouvernment uncompromising, wanted to seize the ball daughter. Finally, we solved it by putting the ball in a large suitcase.

The flight took a while, about half an hour, in a storm and wind. The air here is very humid and very warm. We were very relieved when we entered the air-conditioned room.

We recognized the island of iguanas, stepping through thousands of shells in the sea while browsing by small islands, we drove through the "forest" of the mangroves and met a few "lucky" people who loved their work. People from all over the world travel to the island. We personally met people from Canada, Brazil, America, but also Japan or Europe, although there were significantly fewer.
